Many variables must be object of attention to successfully complete the painting of a portrait.
1. Modeling:
⚀ It is recommended to have at least one live modeling and painting session with the artist (approximately 2 to 3 hours long).
⚁ The next alternative is that the artist can carry out a photography session in which he can obtain material with the quality and technical aspects that the drawing and painting process will require.
⚂ The third alternative consist of painting from available photographs. The quality of the final result is always determined by the quality of the reference images.
Determining which is the best alternative depends on factors such as geographical location, age, time availability, among others.
2. Number of People:
The number of people influences the degree of difficulty of the task and the size of the painting.
3. Painting Size:
In almost all cases it is the client who must determine the size of the work, although some sizes will be suggested. The additional space for the framing must be taken into account.
4. Painting Composition:
The model can be portrayed from the shoulders, from the waist, from the legs or in full body.
The model can be sitting or standing.
Depending upon position, it may be necessary to paint the hands and / or feet.
The background can be abstract or figurative (a house, an office, a landscape or a city, among other possibilities).
5. Framing:
The final work can be delivered framed or unframed.
6. Payment:
The customer will pay 50% of the order in advance and the remaining 50% upon receiving the work to their satisfaction.
7. Modifications:
Once the contract has started and all the previous variables have been defined, no modifications of form or background will be accepted (addition of elements, changes of position of the elements, changes of color, changes in size, etc.)
8. Note on copyright:
Usually the final work belongs, of course, to the client who requests it but the copyright belongs to the artist. This will be the rule that applies, unless there is an explicit additional agreement between the two parties.
The client will receive a certificate of originality of the work.
The painting will be part of the artist´s works record.
